We've been twice and ordered a ton of different items (like, a ton) and we liked everything. Salsas are awesome. Shrimp tacos are my fav. These folks know how to cook.
Burritos and tortas are huge.
Only bummer is no cerveza. -

I made a mistake today. I was in Morro Bay at lunch time, feeling hungry and thinking I should branch out from my usual fish taco go-tos like Ruddell's Smokehouse and the Taco Temple. I decided to check out Tacos El Viejon because of the reviews on Yelp. I wish I hadn't. A waste of $10 on a carne asada burrito that was not worth eating---just a massive glob of refried beans (I asked them to hold the rice) and some rubbery asada. No salsa. No flavor. Nada. The counter person asked me if I wanted cheese and I said "Sure", thinking "What burrito doesn't have cheese?" Found out that the cheese cost me an extra buck. :( I ate about 1/3 of it and decided "This is gross. I'd rather be hungry on my way home."
I prefer not write poor reviews, but it feels wrong to not put it out there that this place is sub-par. If you're looking for satisfying Mexican street food, check out Boni's Cafe and Taco Truck in Cambria. Now, that's a burrito worth driving for (and no, I do not get a kickback from Boni's). -

Checked this place out for a late lunch.
Initially asked what the suadero meat and the and buche meat was, and the young man taking our order was not sure.. so we looked it up online and decided to order a pastor burrito and suadero taco.
They have a salsa bar with delicious spicy guac and something similar to a coleslaw, really nice.
They served us at our table in a nice dining room with television, and brought us our food. After a couple bites we realized the burrito was definitely not pastor, so I took it up and asked what meat it was. They couldn't find our order and then asked me to give them back the burrito we started eating which was also wierd. They weren't sure what it was but we realized it was also a suadero burrito.
They made us a pastor burrito and brought that out to our table. The pastor meat is good, no pineapple unfortunately, and ratio of cilantro and tortilla is on the heavy side could really use some peppers or onions or veggies, bit overall a decent burrito.
They are clearly still in their early stages need to figure out the order/ticketing process and train their staff to know the meats and menu, but has a lot of potential on food quality/options/prices. Look forward to coming back! -

Yum!! Out new go to mexican spot in morro bay!! Funny that there are 3 nextdoor to each other. I love their Al pastor and almabre. They have good salsa and good weekly specials. Tacos are 2.50 and burritos are 7.99.

Tacos El Viejon has completely remodeled the inside of the building. It is very clean and welcoming. There is a TV which was airing National Geographic in Spanish. For locals, this is the same building as the prior Chinese restaurant that was here for many years.
This place is very relaxed and comfortable. One orders at the front of the restaurant, and it is delivered when the order is complete. There is no wait staff.
The menu shows the offerings of burritos, nachos, quesadillas, tacos, & torta sandwiches with many different kinds of meat.
The pastor burrito was of a good size. It consisted mainly of a lot of seasoned rice, a few beans and a tiny amount of very fatty pork.
